The rheological properties of paints and coatings can be adjusted according to requirements using hydrophilic or hydrophobic AEROSIL® products. In almost all solvent-borne, water-based, and high-solids coatings, the addition level is 0.3–1.0% based on the total formulation. Incorporation of AEROSIL® particles into coatings often results in pseudoplasticity associated with thixotropic effects.
